"Moselem Springs restaurant opens"
by Karen L. Miller

The Inn at Moselem Springs, Richmond Township, is once again open for business.

The restaurant, which seats 330 people and was formerly called Moselem Springs Inn, was purchased in the spring by the Inn at Moselem Springs, Inc., according to Steve B. Hansen, Schaefferstown, Lebanon County, vice president. Michael D. Rodino of Exeter Township is president.

Hansen said the restaurant has three dining rooms- the presidential room, the willow room, and the golden eagle- and a lounge. He added that the smokehouse behind the restaurant produces the menu's smoked pork chops, salmon and sausage.

The fare includes Pennsylvania Colonial dishes, such as stuffed chicken and shepherd's pie, and traditional fine dining meals, such as stuffed lobster and steak. Dinners are in th $10 to $27 price range.

Hansen and Rodino also are associated with the Kutztown Tavern, Kutztown, and OzGood's Neighborhood Bar and Grille, Robesonia, Hansen said.

The restaurant, at routes 222 and 662, is open for lunch Mondays through Saturdays and for dinner every night. Hansen said he plans to offer Sunday brunch later.

The restaurant employs about 45 people. The 149-year-old inn had been up for sale since it closed July 10, 2000, according to Carl H. Ziegler, who with his wife, Jean, bought the property in 1979.

The inn was built in 852 by the Leibensperger family, which operated it for more than 80 years, first as a hostelry for Connestoga wagon drivers.

The three-story building was destroyed by a 1929 fire that left only three of its walls standing, but it was subsequently restored to its original condition and was operated by several owners since then.

Walter R. Stoudt and his wife, Madeline I., bought the business in 1962 and subsequently sold it to the Zeiglers, according to newspaper records.
